First Nations Culturally Appropriate Supports — Compassionate Community Care
All Services Compassionate Community Care Service

First Nations culturally appropriate supports.

Support delivered with cultural respect at the centre of it — First Nations workers, community connection, and engagement shaped with participants and families rather than applied to them.

Workforce

First Nations support workers within our team.

Approach

Cultural considerations built into planning, not added afterwards.

Connection

We work alongside community and First Nations organisations.

Service Area

Cairns, the southern corridor and Innisfail.

Service overview

Cultural safety is a staffing decision as much as a policy.

A cultural safety statement is easy to write. What actually makes a difference to a First Nations participant is who walks through the door, whether they understand family and community obligations, and whether the service treats connection to community as a support need rather than an inconvenience.

We have First Nations workers on our team and we match them to participants where that is what the person and their family want. Where we cannot match, we say so, and we work with the participant and community organisations on what respectful support looks like instead.

Who This Service Is For

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants and their families who want a provider that engages respectfully and takes cultural considerations seriously.

  3. 3

    Funding & support needs review

We look at the plan, the support hours and what the participant actually needs day to day.

    Plan and hours checked

  4. 4

    Risk & compatibility assessment

For shared arrangements this step is never skipped, however quickly a placement is needed.

    Never skipped

    Options & stakeholder discussion

We present the accommodation or support options and talk them through with everyone involved.

    Everyone at the table

A Service Agreement and Schedule of Supports are prepared once a direction is agreed.

    Prepared promptly
